Dyle TV Anyone?

dyle_logoI received a press release about a new RCA tablet that does DTV. It’s an 8″ Android computer tablet with a Cortex A5 processor, it has WiFI  and 8GB of memory. But it also has a built in ATSC tuner that also does DTV M/H. Now by its self it sounds pretty good but then they started talking about Dyle. What is Dyle? A Dyle App is mentioned that you use to control the tuner. Also the Mobile Content Venture is talked about, it consists of several broadcast groups.

After doing some research this is what I have figured out. Using the Dyle App you can use a plug in DTV tuner to your iPad or iPhone (or this new RCA Tablet) and receive over the air DTV broadcasts. The reason for the App is two fold, first the can track who is watching what, much better than ever before. This will help with advertising, broadcasters have had a very hard time getting anyone to pay for mobile TV. Dyle will help them to generate numbers to show advertisers.( B&C article on this)  Second is Conditional Access, having a common App will allows broadcasters to finally  offer paid programing.  They do mention this in passing on their website but you have to be looking for it to find it.

Since ATSC M/H is just IP packets they can easily send data to any Dyle device such as information on an advertised item. This could be very good for broadcasting if it works. On the Dyle.tv website they have coverage maps and links to other Dyle devices.
